Configuring the Service for Self-Service Setup

Self-service setup allows device owners (end users) to provision their devices without the need for contacting support staff. To enable it, it needs to be configured at the service level by a supervisor, at organisation level by an organisation manager, and finally by the device owner.

The self-service workflow goes as follows:

  1. A customer is given the URL for self-service setup

  2. The customer registers himself or herself in the service as a user

    1. Gives an email address

    2. Verifies the email address

    3. Enters basic user information

  3. The user selects a device type

  4. The user is given instructions and a web link to provision the device

After the initial tasks, the user can register and provision additional devices.

As a supervisor, you need to perform the following tasks described below:

Enabling Self-Service Setup

First, you need to enable the self-service setup system-wide in Configuration→Platforms.

Select Device setup enabled (system-wide) and click Save changes.

Organisation Settings

You need to set a default organisation and make settings for each organisation using the self-service setup. They are done in the Device setup tab.

  1. Choose the Default organisation for Device Setup.
    This organisation is used when a user accesses the self-service setup with the URL path /setup, without specifying an organisation. If you leave the option empty, specifying an organisation in the URL is required.

  2. For each organisation using the self-service setup, select it in the Edit organisation settings list and make the settings.

    Enables self-service setup for the organisation.

    Email requirement

    Enter a regular expression that is used for determining which email addresses are accepted for self-service registration. Leaving the field empty accepts all email addresses.

    Account template

    Click the field to select a user account template. The template is used for creating user accounts when users register themselves in the service.

    Device template: <platform>

    For each platform, for which you want to enable the self-service setup, select a matching device template by clicking the field.

  3. Click Save changes to save the settings.

Platform-Specific Settings

Android

You must have the Use SMS installation code enabled. An SMS message is used for sending the service registration address for users to register.
