Installation Code Editor

The installation code editor allows editing new or existing installation codes, as described in Installation codes.

Once done with the settings, click Save to save the settings and exit, or Cancel to exit without saving.

The window has the following sections:

Basic Settings

The basic settings are done in the upper left corner of the window.

The fields are as follows:

Description

A free form display name for the installation code

Installation code (mandatory)

The actual installation code. You can use a custom code by typing it here or generate a new random code by clicking Generate new code.

Expiration

In a case where you give an installation code to a group of people, you may want to limit the time or number of installations, or both. You can make these settings in the Expiration block.

The fields are as follows:

Expires after

Expiration date and time for the installation code. The code may not be used after the given time. If empty, the code never expires (unless you have a usage limit defined).

Usage limit

Number how many times the installation code may be used. Once all are used up, further installation attempts fail. If empty, installations are not limited by number.

Usage limit delay

This parameter softens the Usage limit by allowing use for some time after the usage limit has been reached. This is useful if you are giving out codes and do not want a situation where the code expires immediately if the limit is reached. If empty, usage limit is hard and installations are refused immediately after reaching the limit.

Action

The Action selection defines the action to take when the installation code is used.

The options are as follows:

Create a new account and device

This option is useful in a case where you give a group of device owners a shared self-service installation code, which they can use to register themselves as users to the service, as well as register their device(s). As the code is intended for a particular user group, you may want to create account and device templates specifically for the installation code.

The additional parameters are as follows:

Account template

Select the user account template to use. The templates are described in Account Templates.

Username prefix

A prefix for usernames (user IDs) that are created using the installation code.

Device template

Select the user account template to use. The templates are described in Device Templates.

Create a new device

This option is useful in a case where you give a self-service installation code to an existing user account. The user account can be used for registering multiple devices. This is often used in organisations where some devices are not assigned personally, but they are nevertheless registered for a single user account.

The additional parameters are as follows:

Account

Click Click to select (the link label changes to the username) to select the account in the pop-up window that opens.

Device template

Select the user account template to use. The templates are described in Device Templates.

Use existing device

The installation code allows installing on an existing device. This action has rather limited use, but you may need such an exception, such as if you want to allow longer expiration time than the default for a device.

Click Click to select (the link label changes to the device ID) to select the device in the pop-up window that opens.
