Device Templates

Device templates are preset settings for new devices. They are the very core of the service, because of how they flexibly allow tailoring different kinds of device profiles for different user groups.

You need at least one device template for each mobile OS platform. Many organisations have many more, typically for employees in different job roles and locations.

See the following video for an introduction into creating a device template. In the video, we show an example of how to create a template for COBO Android phones used by delivery workers at a specific location. We go through some typical settings, although there are of course many more.

Description of the device settings is out of scope of this manual.

Creating a Template

To create a new template:

  1. Click New in the view toolbar
  2. The template editor is identical to device editor.

    The Display name and Platform are mandatory fields for templates.
    1. Display name (mandatory) – Name for the template
    2. Active – Whether the device is active by default
    3. Platform (mandatory) – Select the operating system platform from the drop-down list
    4. Owner – Cannot be set the owner in a template
  3. Edit the template as you would edit the settings for a device. See the information in Device Editor.
  4. Click Save & close to save the new template

Editing templates

To edit an already existing template account:

  1. Either:
    1. Select the template in the list and click Edit or
    2. Right-click on the template to open the context menu and select Edit.
  2. The Edit Device pop-up window opens.
  3. See the Device Editor for a detailed description of the settings.
  4. Finally, click either Save & close to save the account or Cancel to exit without saving.

Removing templates

To remove a template from the system:

  1. Either:
    1. Select the template in the list and click Remove or
    2. Right-click on the template to open the context menu and select Remove.
  2. You will be prompted to confirm the removal.

Device Template Management Log

Device management operations are logged. You can view the log by right-clicking on a template in the list and selecting Log.
