New User and a Device

You can create a new user (device owner) and a device at once.

Creating a new user account and a device is shown in the following video:

The same functionality is available in three different views:

• At Home by clicking the Create account & device button
  
• At Accounts→Users, as described in User Accounts (Device Owners)
• At Devices→Inventory, as described in Device Inventory.

The in the latter two views, you can find a New button:

Do as follows:

1. Click the button
2. Fill in the basic user account details in the Accounts section:
   
   
   1. Select an Account template.
   2. Enter First name and Last name.
   3. Select ID generation method.
   4. Enter a Password or use the generated one. Click Show to see the password in plain text – this is the only occasion you can do so. You need to copy the password to an email or elsewhere to give it to the user. Otherwise, you need to change the password later.
   5. Fill in the Email address if possible. Either the email addess or the phone number for the device is required.
3. Fill in the basic device details in the Device section:
   
   
   1. Select the appropriate device template
   2. Fill in the Phone number if possible. Either the email addess or the phone number for the device is required.
4. Click Create to create the user account and device
5. Configure the user account and device further
   
   
   1. Click Edit account to edit the account as described in User Accounts (Device Owners). The mandatory information was given earlier, but you may need to set other important details, such as the organisation unit.
   2. Click Edit device to edit the devices as described in Device Editor. The most important device information, platform and phone number, were given earlier. Some settings here may be mandatory for your organisation, such as Group membership.

6. Click Send settings to send the settings to the device immediately. It is requred that either the user must have an email account or the device must have a phone number to receive SMS messages.

   Note

   If you do not send the settings here, you can do it later in the Devices→Inventory by selecting the device, clicking Execute on selected devices, and then Send initial settings to device, as described in Device Commands.
7. Click Close to exit. Clicking Restart goes back to the first screen and resets the initial settings for the account and device.
